RoboCup Regional Committees RoboCup is a non-commercial, scientific and cultural activity to promote artificial intelligence, robotics, and other related science and technologies through robots and simulated robots competitions. A sufficiently large number of teams, researchers and teachers from any nation, group of nations, or nation-sized region (henceforth "region") with significant past and current RoboCup participation is invited to form a "RoboCup Regional Committee." The purposes of these committees are to 1. Promote RoboCup within your region. 2. Organize local RoboCup events and RoboCup opens. 3. Manage qualification for RoboCup leagues when slots are limited. 4. Maintain RoboCup standards for scientific research and education within your region and uphold the RoboCup mission of sharing advances through friendly competition. 5. Maintain an English website to be linked to the main RoboCup website describing the RoboCup activities in your region. 6. Ensuring proper user of RoboCup emblems (names and logos) in your region. There are local events smaller than regional "open" competitions, which should also be run with regional committee participation but must be approved by the board of trustees. The regional committee is expected to send a report following each event summarizing the participation and organization of the event, including how many people and teams participated, from where, etc., as well as a financial report including registration fees, regional sponsorship, events and operational cost, etc. If there are many local events in a given year, they can be grouped together into a single annual report. Each regional committee should have a single chair who serves as the main point of contact with the RoboCup Board of Trustees for questions that are relevant to the region. There should be representation on the committee from all of the different RoboCup leagues in which your region is active (including RoboCupJunior). If not already established, we encourage the regional committees to initiate the formation of all aspects of RoboCup activities, including RoboCupSoccer, RoboCupRescue, RoboCupJunior, and RoboCup@Home. To form a committee, please get together with all of the participants from your region. Once the list of committee members is prepared, please contact the RoboCup Trustees with the following information: 1. The members and affiliations of the committee. 2. The names, affiliations, and email addresses of all the Major teams represented by the committee (hopefully all the teams from your region). In the case of RoboCupJunior, include the name of the Junior regional representative, and his/her affiliation and email address. It is not necessary to include the list of all Junior teams from your region. 3. The URL of your current webpage, if it already exists (see http://www.robocup.org/organization/regional_committees for some examples). The Trustees will then check that all the represented teams agree to be represented in this way, and then link the committee to the RoboCup website. The representatives of all RoboCup Regional Committees meet at least once a year during the annual RoboCup event to discuss with the Trustees the development of RoboCup in their regions and in general. Dear roboticists and AI researchers, we are pleased to present the call for expressions of interest in the Robot Exhibition of the 32nd International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (August 19–25, 2023, Macao, S.A.R). IJCAI23 will be a premier international gathering of researchers in AI, and the Robot Exhibition will run alongside the IJCAI23 combined technical program (https://ijcai-23.org/call-for-robot-exhibition/). Robots are a central focus of AI research and development, providing preeminent examples where cognitive skills (e.g., in perception, decision-making, control) are necessary to cope with complex tasks, and both naturalistic and controlled environments. On the one hand, developing intelligent robot systems involves challenging open research questions in AI. On the other hand, established AI methods are gaining increasing interest and applicability in various domains (e.g., industries, services, space) that involve robots alongside humans. This exhibition offers a prime space for exhibiting both achieved results and new opportunities for the development and use of AI in Robotics in the real world to a large audience of professional AI researchers from academia and industry. The exhibition seeks to involve both academic and industrial groups interested in the combination of AI and Robotics. The exhibition will thus provide an outstanding opportunity for universities, research organizations, and companies to showcase their research on the world stage. We invite expressions of interest for demonstrations of robotic systems, software, and tools that exploit AI methods and technologies, and that would be of interest to the broad AI community. Expressions of interest should include: A one-page description (in IJCAI format) of: ○ the proposing group/company, ○ the robotic technology to be demonstrated, ○ the relevance of this technology to AI. The Ph.D. has a duration of 36 months. The researcher will focus on the following topics: Research topic: Healthcare and wellness of persons The focus of the project is to investigate how robots could be endowed with adaptive and proactive behaviour in order to predict the users' needs to support them in assistive tasks. To achieve this goal, both the proper perceptual capabilities to infer beliefs, emotions and desires of a user and decision-making ones are necessary components. In particular, the ability to have a Theory of Mind (ToM) representing and reasoning on the users’ mental state as they evolve over time and personalize the robot’s behaviour based on inferred beliefs and intentions will be considered. Requirements: MSc or equivalent in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or Engineering with a focus on Intelligent Systems, Intelligent Robotics, Machine Learning and Human-Robot Interaction is required. Excellent programming skills (Python, C++, Machine Learning Frameworks, ROS etc.) are needed. The post provides access to courses by top researchers in any of the participating institutions and the chance to spend visiting periods in other highly specialized centres in Europe and worldwide. Applicants who already have a doctoral degree are not eligible. Excellent English communication skills are an important requirement. I have a RoboCup Federation-funded project to study the impact that participation in RoboCupJunior competitions had on participating students. We have witnessed the impact it has on the Junior teams for many years. However, what proves the impact of RoboCupJunior as of today is anecdotal accounts mainly from the observations by RoboCupJunior organizers, team mentors, and teachers and the stories shared by RoboCupJunior participants. This project will provide scientific evidence of the impacts that RoboCupJunior has had on participating students. Many educational robotics competitions have run similar studies to measure the impacts that their events have on their participants. However, it is rare to study the participants after they left the competitions to study longitudinal impacts.
