Dear colleagues, it is with great pleasure that we are inviting you to participate at this year edition of SCRITA workshop <http://scrita.herts.ac.uk>, that will be held in conjunction with RO-MAN 2023, in Busan, South Korea, August 28-31, 2023. The workshop will be open to a broad audience from academia and industry researching social robotics, machine learning, robot behavioural control, and user-profiling, but also experts from psychology and sociology insights and experiences from a multidisciplinary and human-focused point of view. In this year edition, we would like to continue exploring the challenges and dynamics between people and robots to foster short interactions and long-lasting relationships in different fields, from educational, service, collaborative, companion, care-home and medical robotics. Dear roboticists and AI researchers, we are pleased to present the call for expressions of interest in the Robot Exhibition of the 32nd International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (August 19–25, 2023, Macao, S.A.R). IJCAI23 will be a premier international gathering of researchers in AI, and the Robot Exhibition will run alongside the IJCAI23 combined technical program (https://ijcai-23.org/call-for-robot-exhibition/). Robots are a central focus of AI research and development, providing preeminent examples where cognitive skills (e.g., in perception, decision-making, control) are necessary to cope with complex tasks, and both naturalistic and controlled environments. On the one hand, developing intelligent robot systems involves challenging open research questions in AI. On the other hand, established AI methods are gaining increasing interest and applicability in various domains (e.g., industries, services, space) that involve robots alongside humans. This exhibition offers a prime space for exhibiting both achieved results and new opportunities for the development and use of AI in Robotics in the real world to a large audience of professional AI researchers from academia and industry. The exhibition seeks to involve both academic and industrial groups interested in the combination of AI and Robotics. The exhibition will thus provide an outstanding opportunity for universities, research organizations, and companies to showcase their research on the world stage. We invite expressions of interest for demonstrations of robotic systems, software, and tools that exploit AI methods and technologies, and that would be of interest to the broad AI community. Recently, we won first place in the RoboRescue Major category at the Mexican Robocup Open, which has given us the opportunity to represent our country at the international event. We would like to express our interest in participating in the RobocupRescue International in France and we are excited about the idea of competing with other teams from around the world in this exciting challenge. We are also grateful for the support we have received from our city, which has encouraged us to take this opportunity to showcase our passion and skills in the field of robotics. We would like to know what steps we need to take to register for the competition and ensure that we meet all the necessary requirements. We would also like to receive information about any important deadlines we should be aware of. Do you think mobile robot navigation is mostly a solved problem? Are you looking for a hands-on project for your robotics class, but may not have (sufficient) robot platforms for your students? The challenge will take place both in the simulated BARN dataset and in physical obstacle courses at ICRA2023. 1. The competition task is designing ground navigation systems to navigate through all 300 BARN environments (https://cs.gmu.edu/~xiao/Research/BARN/BARN.html) and physical obstacle courses constructed at ICRA2023 as fast as possible without collision. 2. The 300 BARN environments can be the training set for learning-based methods, or to design classical approaches in. During the simulation competition, we will generate another 50 unseen environments unavailable to the participants before the competition. 3. We will standardize a Jackal robot in the Gazebo simulation, including a Hokuyo 2D LiDAR, motor controller of 2m/s max speed, etc. 4. Participants can use any approaches to tackle the navigation problem, such as using classical sampling-based or optimization-based planners, end-to-end learning, or hybrid approaches. We will provide baselines for reference. 5. A standardized scoring system is provided on the website. 6. We will invite the top teams in simulation to compete in the real world. The team who achieves the fastest collision-free navigation in the physical obstacle courses wins. In this year edition, we would like to continue exploring the challenges and dynamics between people and robots to foster short interactions and long-lasting relationships in different fields, from educational, service, collaborative, companion, care-home and medical robotics. [news] Announcing Verti-Wheelers: Toward Wheeled Mobility on Vertically Challenging Terrain

Dear roboticists, the Verti-Wheelers project developed at the RobotiXX lab at George Mason University is officially open-sourced and public to the whole robotics community! In this project, we developed platforms, datasets, and algorithms to empower conventional wheeled robot platforms to move through off-road terrain with vertical protrusions from the ground, such as steep slopes, rocky outcroppings, and uneven surfaces. Without specialized hardware, the Verti-Wheelers project encourages the community to develop enhanced wheeled mobility on such vertically challenging terrain together. The build of our Verti-Wheelers (both hardware and software), hours of demonstrated crawling datasets, and three baseline algorithms are all open-sourced for the community’s use. With the Verti-Wheelers, we look forward to superior robot mobility that allows mobile robots to venture to many difficult spaces which are previously inaccessible to wheeled robots.
