Theory of mind and mental models are largely investigated in human-computer interactions, however, it is still unclear what level of others’ mental states a robot should be aware of in order to communicate with people in a transparent and socially acceptable way. The ASIMOV workshop will constitute a unique opportunity to gather roboticists and computer scientists to discuss a variety of current and new approaches aiming at endowing social robots with learning abilities, enhancing cognitive and social abilities based on mutual understanding (i.e. shared Theory of Mind). Target Audience This workshop is intended as a forum for a broad audience, which spans social and assistive robotics, cognitive and behavioral robotics, and social awareness and explainability in HRI. The workshop should be a place to exchange opinions, discuss innovative ideas, and get hints and suggestions on ongoing research, therefore contributing to tackling unresolved issues. The proposed topic brings together researchers working on user behavior and intention detection, human-robot interaction, social and assistive robotics, control interfaces, learning, and ethical and safety issues in human-machine interaction, among others. A large scientific community is involved in such research fields. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: - Mental models in HRI - Human-aware perception-action loop - Emotion and intention recognition - Empathy and Theory of Mind in Robotics - Mutual affective understanding - Real-time monitoring of behavior and mental states - Detection of non-verbal behavioral cues - Online adaptive behavior - Acceptability and personalization - Physiological monitoring and biofeedback systems - BCI (brain-computer interfaces)-enabled adaptive interaction - Short- and Long-term personalization - Human partnership and trust in HRI - Explainable AI in HRI - Security and safety in HRI Submission We welcome prospective participants to submit either full papers (up to 6 pages) or extended abstracts (up to 2 pages). It is the largest international annual competition for autonomous service robots and is part of the RoboCup initiative. [Apologies for Multiple Postings] Nominations are solicited for the 2024 ACM SIGAI Autonomous Agents Research Award. This award is made for excellence in research in the area of autonomous agents. It is intended to recognize researchers in autonomous agents whose current work is an important influence on the field. The award is an official ACM award, funded by an endowment created by ACM SIGAI from the proceeds of previous Autonomous Agents conferences. The recipient of the award will receive a monetary prize and a certificate, and will be invited to present a plenary talk at the AAMAS 2024 conference. How to Nominate Anyone can make a nomination. Nominations should be made by filling out the below google form, and should consist of a short (< 1 page) statement that emphasizes not only the research contributions that the individual has made that merit the award but also how the individual’s current work is an important influence on the field. The template is flexible; however, it should include a concise abstract/synopsis of a maximum of 50 words, and enough details to judge the technical novelty of the proposed solution and/or innovative applications of robots. A single link of related video can be included. Video link is optional, and the maximum duration of the video should be 3 minutes. Keep in mind it is not a scientific publication, but the description of a robotics innovation with potential to be developed as a project. Competition chairs, with the help from experts and reviewers, will select the finalists. Each finalist is supposed to register and present their entry at a dedicated session in the conference, which will be further evaluated by the Jury of peers. We are particularly soliciting the involvement of students who are interested in these topics. - Novel communication technologies for challenging response environments. - Integration of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (aka UAS, RPAS, or aerial drones) into response robotics applications. - Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Management Challenges for the Response Robotics ecosystem. We are also encouraging students who are interested in broader response robotics topics to attend, including, but not limited to: - 3D mapping and indoor/outdoor navigation in unstructured environments. - Mobility in challenging terrain and among 3D obstacles. - Dexterous manipulation and inspection. - Transition of technologies into real world unstructured environments. - Novel sensors for response robotics. The RRSS+W will also host a roadmap discussion for the RoboCupRescue Robot League, with a focus on engaging with the end user community. We invite past, present, and prospective competitors to join us! === Venue: === The venue hosts both real world scenarios, complete with the uncertainty, weather, and communications challenges that it brings, as well as standard test methods that provide repeatable, reproducible, evaluations of robot capabilities that attendees can replicate in their own labs. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to observe robots of their interest performing in both the scenarios and the test methods, as well as bring their own robots to test and refine over the course of the event. [News] Announcing the UT Campus Object Dataset (CODa)

Dear Fellow Roboticists, We are thrilled to announce the release of the UT Campus Object Dataset (CODa) for egocentric perception on urban-scale autonomous mobile robots. CODa is the largest multiclass, multimodal urban mobile robotics dataset to date, with 1.3 million 3D bounding box annotations for 53 object classes, 204 million annotated points for 24 terrain classes, and globally consistent pseudo-ground truth poses. CODa contains 8.5 hours of multimodal sensor data: hardware synchronized high resolution 3D point clouds and stereo RGB cameras, RGB-D videos, and 9-DOF IMU data. We provide 58 minutes of ground-truth annotations containing 3D bounding box annotations with instance IDs, 3D semantic annotations for urban terrain, and globally consistent pseudo-ground truth localization. We repeatedly traverse geographic locations across weather conditions and times of the day. The CODa data collection routes include various types of environments including large indoor atriums, busy food courts, outdoor sidewalks, and mixed-traffic roads. The CODa release includes the labeled multimodal dataset, pretrained 3D object detection models, and dataset development kit. The ICSR conference is a leading forum where state-of-the-art innovative results, the latest developments and future perspectives that are relating to robot and human interactions are presented and discussed. The conference welcomes original contributions describing technically rigorous scientific and research advances in the area of social robotics and AI: innovative ideas and concepts, new discoveries and improvements, novel applications on the latest fundamental advances in the core technologies that form the backbone of social robotics and distinguished studies and projects pertaining social robotics and its interaction and impact in our society. The theme of this year’s conference is “*Human-Robot Collaboration: Sea, Air, Land, Space and Cyberspace*”. * The Graz University of Technology and the University of Teacher Education Styria invite applications for a total of 6 doctoral positions in the field of developing digital teaching and learning technologies and content as part of the doctoral programme "Future of Digital Education and Learning". The research topics are from the following subject areas: ** (1) Improving the quality and availability of teaching through AI and augmented reality: On the one hand, we will investigate how learning programming can be supported with individual supervision by AI tutors, similar to ChatGPT or Google's Bard. On the other hand, we will investigate augmented reality as a learning technology, with corresponding content being developed, created and used by students and teachers themselves. Comparisons will be made about the sustainability of learning performance with and without the use of technology and, of course, the technologies themselves will be further developed accordingly. (2) Innovative teaching with distance learning and modern, freely available teaching and learning materials: Distance learning was used spontaneously, without sufficient methodological underpinning and without reflection in schools at the time of the pandemic. In this research work, solid foundations for Distance Learning are to be developed on the basis of scientific methods, applied in schools under defined framework conditions and evaluated in a methodologically sound manner. Likewise, teaching materials, didactic concepts and textbooks for the school subject of digital basic education will be developed with a special focus on interdisciplinary teaching. Within the framework of this research work, these developments are to be accompanied scientifically and the resulting teaching materials are to be made available to all interested teachers on open learning platforms. (3) Development and evaluation of age-appropriate content and methods for teaching artificial intelligence: In this research work, age-appropriate didactic concepts for teaching artificial intelligence topics in schools are to be developed. The methods developed should be based on the current state of research in the field of teaching-learning research and the subject didactics and reflect a broad mix of formats (from pencil & paper to unplugged to programming tasks). The topics to be addressed will be defined in accordance with the Austrian curricula. The developed concepts will then be evaluated in school lessons in field studies. The corresponding metrics and evaluation tools will be developed for its methodologically sound evaluation. It will also be investigated which competences of teachers are necessary for a successful implementation of the concepts and how these can be well-founded and effectively integrated into education, further education and training.
