Registrations are open for RoboCup Brazil Open The event will be held in São Bernardo do Campo - São Paulo, Brazil, from october 17 to 22. Remote Participation is available in Simulation Leagues. Registrations are now open for teams all over the world.To participate, the teams must register until july 31, on the website: www.cbrobotica.org . The position is available from Mar. 1st, 2023. We expect applicants for the position to meet the following requirements: * the employment requirements of §36 HG NRW, in particular three years of professional experience outside of higher education institutions, * very good knowledge of English, as well as the ability and willingness to teach in English, * pedagogical and didactic skills in teaching complex learning content, * willingness to participate in activities within the university, as well as national and international committees, * experience in the acquisition, establishment and implementation of internal and externally funded research and development projects, * active participation in the further development and expansion of our Autonomous Systems master's program. The competition is designed based on the SIGVerse simulator, which enables robots to make embodied and social interactions in virtual reality (VR) environments. Competitors submit their software of service robot on AWS (Amazon Web Service). Human test subjects in the real space interact with a robot in the virtual space to evaluate the interactive support ability. One of the competition tasks is a Vision-Language Navigation task to be solved by a human. In other words, the robot needs to explain clearly to the human how to get to the destination, and the competition setting aims to connect the XAI and HRI research. Dear colleagues, dear friends, We are pleased to announce the conference: *De la marionnette au robot : manipulation, animation et expression des corps artificiels * The event will be held in Paris at the MSH Paris Nord on Saturday the 25th of June, 2022. The robot never ceases to populate fictional writings, essays, films and series; in the theater, its presence has a long history, linked to the exploration of otherness. The robot on stage seems to arouse a "disturbing uncanniness" linked to the cohabitation, as for the puppet and the mask, of animate and inanimate, of rigidity and illusion of life. Unlike these theatrical objects par excellence, the behavior of the robot and its autonomy determine a radical, external otherness, which raises the question of the overcoming of the human. This conference aims to question the techniques and modalities of animation and expression of artificial bodies, from puppet devices to robots, fostering discussions on points of convergence, divergence and overcomings, by bringing together engineers, artists and researchers in performing arts. The candidate will have the chance to explore practical machine learning and more formal methods to develop the AI controller of social robots. It will be crucial to be passionate about ideas and challenges (and maths and programming). Requirements: Applicants are expected to have good programming skills and be interested in further improving them. Knowledge of statistics, control systems theory, artificial intelligence, computer vision, as well as machine learning methodologies, and libraries would be an important plus. Similarly, the ability to understand and design psychological tasks as well as use statistical methods to evaluate experimental results and human-robot interaction effectiveness would be valuable. Experience with real-time 3d engines and/or VR platforms, such as Unity3D, Unreal and similar, or with robotic platforms will also be considered positively. Description of the field: In the last 10 years, with the advent of modern deep learning methodologies, substantial performance improvement has been observed in perception for robots and other artificial systems. However, interactions with unstructured environments pose high challenges due to the variety of conditions and crucial sensory limits, such as occlusions and limited FOV. This position will focus on the study and development of systems that can perceive others’ states in unstructured environments and predict their actions, intentions, and beliefs. A possible line of research would focus on adaptive and social active perception mechanisms that enable to dynamically deal with sensory limits and have received limited attention but play a crucial role in human perception (Ognibene & Demiris, 2013, Lee, Ognibene et al. 2015). It has been recently shown that such mechanisms may substantially improve learning performance other than execution efficiency and even enable online adaptation to new environments [Ognibene & Baldassarre, 2015], however, these properties have not been fully scaled to social conditions yet. Moreover, active perception also plays a crucial role also when interacting with other agents who add relevant scene dynamics and may occlude important information. At the same time agents may have their own sensory limits and active perception strategies that must be scrupulously parsed to support effective social interaction [Ognibene, Mirante, et al, 2019], e.g. false beliefs and theory of mind [Bianco & Ognibene 2020]. Most importantly, social interaction increases the demand for integration of information about task and context, i.e. simultaneous perception of the states of other agents, their effectors, and other scene elements which can be strongly affected by the limited field of view and challenging for active perception due to the necessity to focus on the right element at the right time [Ognibene, Chinellato, et al 2013] and adapt to different types of interaction. The work may not only focus on advancing technical performance but on understanding and modelling how humans perform and adapt social perception or on how to design active social perception to improve the perceived quality of human-robot interactions. Dear Colleagues, Apologies for any cross-posting. We are glad to invite contributions for the 2nd Edition of the GenR Workshop (*GenR 2022*) *Gendering Robots: Intersectional Feminist Perspectives on Gender in Social Robotics* which will be held as part of the IEEE International Conference on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN 2022) on August 29th, 2022 in hybrid form. This year we do not invite full papers but contributions in many different formats - e.g., text, videos, pictorials, images (deadline: June 24th). We would like potential contributors to describe their out of the box ideas, visions, and reflections on the topic of the workshop in the format they prefer. Kindest regards, Giulia Perugia \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ [CFP] Call for Contributions - GenR 2022 Workshop @RO-MAN 2022 - Gendering Robots: Intersectional Feminist Perspectives on Gender in Social Robotics [ website <https://sites.google.com/view/ro-man-genr-workshop/home>] This year’s GenR workshop aims to provide a space for collaborative discussion, critical reflection, and creativity to find opportunities to break with normative research practices in robotics methodology and robot design from an intersectional perspective. Our spotlight theme for this year’s workshop is Intersectional Feminism. Kimberle Crenshaw first introduced intersectionality as a term to describe the discriminatory effects of race and gender, which cannot be understood in isolation as they amplify and resonate with each other. Crenshaw and other feminists have since developed intersectionality as a framework to understand the interaction of social markers such as gender, race, class, disability, and their effects on social phenomena. The HRI literature has extensively shown that social robots, especially humanoid ones, are exposed to the same social categorisation processes that affect humans. The integration of social robots in the political dimensions and social categories of society demands a deeper engagement with their potential dangers and opportunities. Instead of a regular call for papers, the GenR 2022 workshop team invites contributions describing ambitious, out of the box ideas to break with normative practices in Social Robotics and HRI, as well as creative visions for the future of social robotics and critical reflections about its present from an intersectional lens. We invite you to submit EITHER a one-page written submission describing an idea, reflection, or vision (no template or pre-defined format), OR a media (i.e., short 5-min videos, pictorial, drawing, sketch, design) depicting an idea, reflection, or vision in a more artistic way. We do not set any limit to creativity, but rather invite you to experiment! Topics of interest include but are not limited to: - Gendering practices in social robotics - Intersectional feminist robotics - Robot’s gender design - Norm-critical design - Queer design in HRI - Sex Robots - Ethics of gendered robots - Societal implications and applications of gendered robots - Performative arts encompassing a reflection on gender in robotics - LGBTQIA+ perspectives on robot gender - Marginalised perspectives on gender in HRI - Queering Robots - Queer identities in HRI - Black in Robotics - Race in Robotics - Disability in Robotics - Research methods to foster gender diversity in HRI studies - Critical design of gendered robots Important dates - June 24th - submission deadline - August 5th - notification of selection - August 29th - workshop day (morning CEST) Written and media contributions can be submitted at the following link <https://htionline.tue.nl/limesurvey2/index.php/999913?lang=en> Submissions will be checked for alignment to the workshop’s themes and goals. Postdoctoral Fellow Position at Carnegie Mellon University Deep Reinforcement Learning Techniques for Human Robot Teaming Systems OPEN POSITION: A postdoctoral fellow position at Robotics Institute, CMU SUPERVISOR: Prof. Katia Sycara (katia(a)cs.cmu.edu) The Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University Website: http://ri.cmu.edu/ri-faculty/katia-sycara LOCATION: The Advanced Agent-Robotics Technology Lab The Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will work on Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithms for human agent teams, with agents interacting autonomously or with humans. Position open immediately in 2022. Start in early 2023 is negotiable. The expected duration of the position is one to three years with renewals upon review. In particular, the research will involve computational models for making inferences and predictions about the behaviors and activities of other agents and human-agent teams so as to (1) perform complementary beneficial actions, and (2) give advice to human and agent team mates to improve overall team performance. The research involves a rich variety of research issues, such as theory of mind models, explainable AI, concept learning and transfer learning. QUALIFICATIONS: - PhD in a field related to AI/ML in particular reinforcement learning in Robotics, CS or related discipline. - A strong theoretical background in Machine Learning - Programming skills including experiences using C++, Python, and/or MATLAB, Neural Network frameworks, eg pytorch - Ability to present work clearly both written and orally - Experiences with deep learning tools mandatory.
