Last call: RCF and MathWorks Support for Research Projects 2024 The RoboCup Federation (RCF) and MathWorks, a Global Sponsor of RoboCup, are pleased to announce this call for proposals to support research projects in RoboCup. RCF-MathWorks Support for Research Projects 2024 aims at funding robotics research projects that use MATLAB and Simulink software. The goal is to enable collaboration between RoboCup researchers and MathWorks engineers to foster progress of RoboCup and its leagues. The evaluation of the proposals will be based on (i) the quality of the proposed research; (ii) the research contributions of the applicants, particularly in relation to RoboCup; (iii) the usage of MATLAB and/or Simulink software; and (iv) the impact of the proposed plan on the advancement and visibility of RoboCup. A limited number of awards is expected to be assigned. [News] Announcing the UT Campus Object Dataset (CODa)

Dear Fellow Roboticists, We are thrilled to announce the release of the UT Campus Object Dataset (CODa) for egocentric perception on urban-scale autonomous mobile robots. CODa is the largest multiclass, multimodal urban mobile robotics dataset to date, with 1.3 million 3D bounding box annotations for 53 object classes, 204 million annotated points for 24 terrain classes, and globally consistent pseudo-ground truth poses. CODa contains 8.5 hours of multimodal sensor data: hardware synchronized high resolution 3D point clouds and stereo RGB cameras, RGB-D videos, and 9-DOF IMU data. We provide 58 minutes of ground-truth annotations containing 3D bounding box annotations with instance IDs, 3D semantic annotations for urban terrain, and globally consistent pseudo-ground truth localization. We repeatedly traverse geographic locations across weather conditions and times of the day. The CODa data collection routes include various types of environments including large indoor atriums, busy food courts, outdoor sidewalks, and mixed-traffic roads. The CODa release includes the labeled multimodal dataset, pretrained 3D object detection models, and dataset development kit. The research is related to safe navigation of a dynamically configurable robot on hiking trails and mule tracks. This is the fifteenth Symposium in the series, which is sponsored by Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. We seek submissions of recent results with a particular emphasis on the foundations of AI and mathematical methods used in AI. Papers describing applications are also encouraged, but the focus should be on principled lessons learned from the development of the application. Traditionally, the Symposium attracts participants from a variety of disciplines, thereby providing a unique forum for scientific exchange. The three-day Symposium includes invited speakers, presentations of technical papers, and special topic sessions. * The Graz University of Technology and the University of Teacher Education Styria invite applications for a total of 6 doctoral positions in the field of developing digital teaching and learning technologies and content as part of the doctoral programme "Future of Digital Education and Learning". The research topics are from the following subject areas: ** (1) Improving the quality and availability of teaching through AI and augmented reality: On the one hand, we will investigate how learning programming can be supported with individual supervision by AI tutors, similar to ChatGPT or Google's Bard. On the other hand, we will investigate augmented reality as a learning technology, with corresponding content being developed, created and used by students and teachers themselves. Comparisons will be made about the sustainability of learning performance with and without the use of technology and, of course, the technologies themselves will be further developed accordingly. (2) Innovative teaching with distance learning and modern, freely available teaching and learning materials: Distance learning was used spontaneously, without sufficient methodological underpinning and without reflection in schools at the time of the pandemic. In this research work, solid foundations for Distance Learning are to be developed on the basis of scientific methods, applied in schools under defined framework conditions and evaluated in a methodologically sound manner. Likewise, teaching materials, didactic concepts and textbooks for the school subject of digital basic education will be developed with a special focus on interdisciplinary teaching. Within the framework of this research work, these developments are to be accompanied scientifically and the resulting teaching materials are to be made available to all interested teachers on open learning platforms. (3) Development and evaluation of age-appropriate content and methods for teaching artificial intelligence: In this research work, age-appropriate didactic concepts for teaching artificial intelligence topics in schools are to be developed. The methods developed should be based on the current state of research in the field of teaching-learning research and the subject didactics and reflect a broad mix of formats (from pencil & paper to unplugged to programming tasks). The topics to be addressed will be defined in accordance with the Austrian curricula. The developed concepts will then be evaluated in school lessons in field studies. The corresponding metrics and evaluation tools will be developed for its methodologically sound evaluation. It will also be investigated which competences of teachers are necessary for a successful implementation of the concepts and how these can be well-founded and effectively integrated into education, further education and training. We seek submissions of recent results with a particular emphasis on the foundations of AI and mathematical methods used in AI. At RobotiXX lab, we perform robotics research at the intersection of motion planning and machine learning, with a specific focus on deployable field robotics. Any candidate with relevant experience in robotics, motion planning, and machine learning is encouraged to apply. Sports provide an ideal testbed for advancing robotic technology due to their demanding requirements of agility, autonomy, and precision. By addressing the unique challenges posed by sports applications, such as real-time control, dynamic adaptation, and intelligent game strategies, we can push the boundaries of robotic performance. The workshop will cover a wide range of vital topics including enhancing athletic behaviors through learning, improving real-time control in dynamic environments, overcoming challenges in deploying real-time machine learning systems, developing intelligent game strategies, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. By incorporating video demonstrations and various presentation formats, the workshop aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, inspire collaboration, and drive advancements in the integration of learning techniques in athletic robotics. The workshop is designed to engage a diverse audience from robotics, machine learning, sports science, and related disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary discussions and unlocking new possibilities for athletic and intelligent robotic systems. Call for Papers and Video Demonstrations We invite researchers to submit their contributions to the workshop in the form of short papers (2 pages) accompanied by video demonstrations or standalone papers (4 pages). These submissions should align with the workshop's topics of interest and will serve as a basis for initiating discussions during the event. Accepted papers will be presented as posters, presentations, and videos, and with the authors' permission, they will be published on the workshop website.
