* Call for Satellite Events *
RoboCup International Symposium 2022
https://2022.robocup.org/symposium-call-for-satellite-events/
Submission of proposals: 3 April 2022
Notification to authors: 25 April 2022
Satellite Events: 17 or 18 July 2022 (RoboCup 2022: 11-17 July 2022)
===========================================================
We invite you to organize a satellite event for the 25th RoboCup
International Symposium, which will be held on 17 July 2022, in
conjunction with RoboCup 2022 (11 July to 17 July 2022) in a hybrid
setting. The RoboCup symposium is an annual event in which innovative,
original research with relevance to areas of robotics and artificial
intelligence is presented.
The Symposium Program Co-Chairs would like to facilitate the
organization of satellite workshops, focus groups, roundtable
discussions, and other events that are related to RoboCup itself or the
general aim of the RoboCup Symposium. This includes league-specific
discussions about rules and/or roadmaps, shared infrastructure projects
between leagues, as well as scientific workshops focusing on a
particular research topic, among others. League committee members, as
well as teams or individuals from RoboCup leagues participating in the
Symposium, are invited to submit their proposals. The organizers of a
satellite event are free to propose events between 2 and 8 hours in
length to be held during or a day after the RoboCup Symposium (17 or 18
July) in a fully virtual, hybrid, or fully local format.
IMPORTANT DATES

organizing committee
* The intended audience and the number of participants expected
* Any resources required to organize the workshop
After the acceptance of their proposal, organizers are expected to
create a short description of their event as well as a website providing
further information which will both be linked from the RoboCup symposium
page on the RoboCup 2022 website.
Organizers of accepted proposals for satellite events will receive a
location for their event as well as other required resources (e.g., a

Dear All (please forward, apologies for multiple postings)
For the joint, interdisciplinary BMBF-funded competence network “Meaningful Human Control. Autonomous Systems between Regulation and Reflexivity” (MeHuCo), we are looking to recruit, as of 1 April 2022,
A PostDoc / Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) (100%), Computer Science, Robotics, or similar at Ostfalia University, Pay group TV-L 13, for a period of four years (fixed-term contract).
The project addresses one of the most serious problems of international security – the development and application of autonomous systems and the possible loss of control due to Artificial Intelligence algorithms. In the project a team of researchers at the Paderborn University (Media Studies/Sience and Technology Studies), the University of Bonn (Media Studies/History), the University of Hamburg (Sociology/Criminology), the University of Hannover (Law) and the University of Applied Sciences Ostfalia (Computer Science/Robotics) will work together with an extended network of international partners in Germany and Europe.
Your responsibilities include:
• Carrying out the research activities in accordance with the approval, in particular in the work package: "Humanoid soccer robots - a lead scenario for investigating possibilities and limits in the programming and control of machine autonomy"
• Publication of project results and presentation of research results at international conferences
• Reporting to project partners and BMBF
• Support of the project management
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
• Doctorate or master's degree with a strong research focus in the broader field of robotics (e.g. computer science / electrical engineering)
• Good knowledge of human-robot interaction
• Creativity
• Experience with interdisciplinary work
• Team skills
• English language capabilities and German language capabilities (or serious interest to acquire them)
Information in German language can be found here: https://www.ostfalia.de/cms/de/d2/.content/documents/Tom-010-22.pdf
The application period will close on March 4th.
If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Dear everyone,
as many of you have already read, there will again be no German Open this year. To provide a reasonable alternative, the SPL and Humanoid League joined together to organize the German Open Replacement Event (GORE). The event will take place between the 12.04. and 17.04.22. To get a better feeling about the size of the event, we would like to ask you if and in what way you and your team would like to participate.
At the current time we are still planning to hold the event in presence, if the COVID-19 situation still allows it by then. If that is the case, the event will take place in Hamburg, Germany in the Handelskammer<https://www.hk24.de/en/servicemarken/event-management>. We are following the regulations advised by the RKI, which means only persons who recovered from COVID, or fully vaccinated persons are admitted if they can also present a negative test result. People with a booster vaccination do not need a test. In any case, participants are required to always wear a medical mask.
Since the situation is changing quickly and unpredictably, we are also preparing online (for HL: simulated; for SPL: running your code on a common robot pool from home) or hybrid (for SPL: teams that cannot be on site can either send robots or use shared robots from other teams similar to a robot pool) solutions, please let us know, which of these alternatives works best for you.
For the SPL, Softbank Robotics has also already announced that they will be on site to facilitate repairs.
We expect the participation to cost about 200€ per team plus 75€ per team member, we will let you know the exact numbers as soon as we have them and it is likely to become less again. If you are interested in participating in the GORE, please send a reply to gore.organisation(a)gmail.com<mailto:gore.organisation@gmail.com> containing:
* Your team's name
* Your teams league (SPL or Humanoid)
* Whether you want to participate in presence, online or hybrid
* An approximate count of how many people you will bring
Please send your replies by February 20th, so that we can plan better.
See you soon. The GORE organizing committee

Dear Humanoid League Teams,
this is the February version of our monthly newsletter in which we will
give you some updates on the preparation of the rule book for the 2022
competition, the qualification process to participate in the world
championship as well quick news on the virtual season.
Rule Voting & Update Process
-----------------------------
The discussion period about the rule book for the 2022 competition has
ended and teams that are eligible to vote have received a link to the
rule vote with further instructions yesterday. The voting period already
ends next Monday (Feb 14th), so make sure you fill out the survey in time!
At the moment, we have applied similar eligibility criteria as in
previous years, which is as follows: "Eligible to vote is every team
that has either participated in RoboCup 2019 or 2021 or was qualified
for RoboCup 2020 and aims to participate in 2022 again (as shown by
having submitted qualification material for 2022). Every team gets to
vote once."
However, we are still discussing the eligibility criteria under the
current Covid situations which may have kept teams from submitting
qualification material for 2022 but that plan on participating in the
future again. If we decide to include more teams in the voting process
and hence extend the voting period, we will inform the league about this
decision.
The preliminary time line for finalizing the rule book looks as follows:
- Feb 18th: Draft of Rule book released
- Feb 18th - Mar 2nd: Period for teams to provide comments on the draft
- Mar 4th: Release of the final rule book
Please note that this schedule may need to be postponed in case of an
extended voting period.
Qualification for RoboCup 2022
-------------------------------
The deadline for updating your qualification material for the 2022
competition in Thailand ends this coming Monday, February 14th. If your
team received a review requiring the provision of additional material,
please make sure you provide it in time! If your team was already
accepted for the competition, you are welcome to update your material
until February 14th as well, although this is not mandatory for you.
The teams will be notified about their final qualification status by
March 7th.
Humanoid League - Virtual Season
---------------------------------
We have now concluded the first four game days and you can find the
results as well as the next stream days announced on our website:
https://humanoid.robocup.org/hl-vs2022/humanoid-league-virtual-season-2021-…
The next stream will happen on our Twitch channel on Sunday, February
20th at 3:00pm CET.
The organizers of the virtual season are still in need for people
supporting the further development of the Webots simulator and the
infrastructure around it. If you would like to volunteer, please get in
touch with me by e-mail or Discord!
Cheers,
Maike (for the Humanoid League Technical Committee)
