vRoHOW 2021 - Save the date

Dear fellow RoboCup teams, We are proud to announce the next virtual Robotic Hamburg Open Workshop (vRoHOW) 2021. The event will take place from 3rd to 5th of December. This year's vRoHOW will have the same goals as every year: Exchanging knowledge in workshops and discussions, expanding your horizon in talks, and chatting together with a cold beer or soft drink. Discord will be our venue with multiple rooms and areas prepared. Combined with additional tools and your participation we will bring the virtual RoHOW to life. Sounds good? There will be no participation fee! A detailed "Call for participation" will follow in the near future. As we currently are in a creative and early planning stage, we encourage you to send us ideas, feedback or any other vRoHOW related input. Inspired by the captivating and warm atmosphere of previous RoHOWs, we are looking forward to build this virtual event with you together. See you soon Team HULKs

Feedback on potential rule change(s) separating Challenge Shield and Champions Cup

Dear SPL Teams, For the attention of teams who participate in the RoboCup Challenge Shield. One of the proposals that the TC is considering is having a separation in rules between the Champions Cup and the Challenge Shield. The purpose of this is to allow the top teams to be sufficiently challenged by rule changes without forcing every team to make the same rate of progress. The implications of this change are as follows: * Teams would not be able to move between the Challenge Shield and Champions Cup at a single RoboCup event. * This would permit the rule set for the Challenge Shield to be a subset of the the Champions Cup rules within the same year. * Between years if a team was “promoted" from the Challenge Shield to the Champions Cup, they would need some extra effort to step up to the rule set of the Champions Cup. * Possible real differences include: * Different number of robots on each team such as 5v5 in the challenger league and 7v7 in the championship league. * New rules changes might start in the Champions Cup and then be rolled out to the Challenge Shield in later years. We would like the feedback of the Challenge Shield teams (who had limited representation at RoboCup 2021 team leader meetings) on potential change to see if this would be a change that they would support. Please respond by reply to this email by September 5th if with your comments and feedback on this change and if your team supports a split in the rules between the two leagues within a given year. RoboCup Brazil Open

All the categories have been adapted and will happen in a fully remote format, using simulators, challenges and submission of articles written by the teams. SPQR Team announce B-Human code usage

Dear RoboCup 2021 Standard Platform League Technical and Organizing Committees, Dear RoboCup SPL teams, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the B-Human code release license, the SPQR Team announces the use of the B-Human code for the ongoing RoboCup 2021. We use some of the native B-Human modules including walking, simulation, whistle recognition, calibration, and behavior design system. Instead, we use our own code for perception, coordination, and multi-robot distributed decision making. The following parts of the SPQR Team code are original: - Visual perception - Team coordination - Data fusion among the robots - Behaviors - Motion primitives (besides get-ups) - Reinforcement Learning Integration The following parts are modifications of the original B-Human code: - Localization - Communication network We would like to thank the B-Human Team for sharing their code and acknowledge their contribution to the RoboCup SPL. R-ZWEI KICKERS announce B-Human code usage

Dear Robocup SPL Community, in accordance to the terms and conditions of the BHuman code release license we - the team R-ZWEI KICKERS, UAS Kaiserslautern, Germany - like to announce the use of part of the B-Human 2019 code in the upcoming competitions 2021. Currently, our code base is a modified version of the B-Human Code Drop 2019. We modified: - team behaviour control and the SimRobot environment to allow for automatic test procedures. - We developed completely custom features including the teach-in of robot behaviour (using PS4-controller, mapping key presses to skills and recording them for playback), and - a data mining analysis which clusters the robot poses to identify trigger points for our teach-in cards, and - coupled the data mining classifier to a reinforcement learning (Q-learning) module that learns the most-effective combination of rule-based and teach-in cards while playing simulated games. - Additionally, we developed our own image recognition and a multi-object detection model, based on Keras/Yolo - Currently, we develop our own kick motions and dribbling skills, and we start applying - data augmentation to increase the robustness of our object detection and - expand the automatic referee to apply the passing-challenge rules, so we can use Q-learning here as well.
