B-Human Code Release 2023

Hi RoboCuppers! The team B-Human announces the availability of our 2023 code release at https://github.com/bhuman/BHumanCodeRelease This is the complete B-Human code release! The software released is a cleaned-up version of the system we used in the 2023 competitions. This is the whole system, i.e the soccer code and the code used in the technical challenges (one as a patch), together with a detailed documentation. You can run the code of the 2023 world champion at home! If you just want to do practice matches against our code, you can also download a ready-to-run image from https://b-human.informatik.uni-bremen.de/public/image2023 Our software is released with its own 3-D simulator. Microsoft Windows 64 bit, Linux 64 bit, and macOS are fully supported. We strongly believe in sharing the developments in our league. Have fun :-) Team B-Human

Sports provide an ideal testbed for advancing robotic technology due to their demanding requirements of agility, autonomy, and precision. By addressing the unique challenges posed by sports applications, such as real-time control, dynamic adaptation, and intelligent game strategies, we can push the boundaries of robotic performance. The workshop will cover a wide range of vital topics including enhancing athletic behaviors through learning, improving real-time control in dynamic environments, overcoming challenges in deploying real-time machine learning systems, developing intelligent game strategies, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. By incorporating video demonstrations and various presentation formats, the workshop aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, inspire collaboration, and drive advancements in the integration of learning techniques in athletic robotics. The workshop is designed to engage a diverse audience from robotics, machine learning, sports science, and related disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary discussions and unlocking new possibilities for athletic and intelligent robotic systems. Call for Papers and Video Demonstrations We invite researchers to submit their contributions to the workshop in the form of short papers (2 pages) accompanied by video demonstrations or standalone papers (4 pages). These submissions should align with the workshop's topics of interest and will serve as a basis for initiating discussions during the event. Accepted papers will be presented as posters, presentations, and videos, and with the authors' permission, they will be published on the workshop website. Topics of Interest include: * Systems design enabling the learning of athletic behaviors in robots * Learning-based real-time controllers and planners for athletic movements * Safety frameworks for athletic robots * Sensing and state estimation under time and compute constraints with incomplete and imperfect knowledge of the world * Communication systems for robotic team sports * Synthesizing strategies for sports-playing robots * Human-robot collaboration for athletic and agile robots We encourage submissions that demonstrate and benchmark their approaches on sports-related applications such as table tennis, tennis, soccer, air hockey, and others. Dear RoboCup SPL Teams, We hope you enjoyed RoboCup 2023 and had some time to relax from the exciting competition in France. While the competition of RoboCup 2023 is over by now, some work is still to be done: We want to remind you that the SPL Competition *requires a Code Release from all teams by 15th October 2023*. Please see Section A.7 of the Rules document for details <https://spl.robocup.org/wp-content/uploads/SPL-Rules-2023.pdf> and announce it via the robocup-nao(a)lists.robocup.org mailing list. (Teams that already have published a release can ignore this reminder.) We also want to update you on the work that is being done towards RoboCup 2024. The TC has been discussing the feedback from team leaders and rule change suggestions. Based on the discussions, the following is planned for the 2024 competition: * The standard penalty procedure will be simplified. A robot will be placed at the sidelines, facing towards the field. After the penalty time has passed, the GC Operator returns the robot to play, so it can walk into the playing area without any interaction by assistant referees. * To promote more dynamic ball handling, rule modifications will now enforce that, following each stoppage of play or kick-off, two distinct robots from the same team must make contact with the ball in order for a goal to be considered valid. This represents a revision to the indirect kick rule. * As a first step for the broader implementation of statistical game analysis, the upcoming competition will extend the scope of the video/game analysis challenge featured in past competitions. Following each game, statistics will be computed, and teams will be evaluated/scored based on specific statistics chosen by the TC. * We invite participating teams to collaborate with us in developing tools to monitor the SPL's progress within this challenge. If you want your framework to be considered for this, reach out to the TC. * Towards the RoboCup 2050 goal of robots playing with human players, we plan to hold a technical challenge in which fully autonomous NAOs play alongside remote-controlled NAOs. You can expect further details on the upcoming changes as the TC will release draft versions of the rules document As the Nao v6 becomes older, we need to plan ahead for its replacement. To begin, we want to create a discussion on the SPL Discord server on channel Platform-evolution <https://discord.com/channels/721967993860521996/1153394972234616873>. The idea would be mostly to create a list of products or projects in development that could be interesting to investigate.
