In many of the leagues, there were neither rules nor infrastructure to support remote competitions. We knew that it was risky, but we also suspected that the RoboCup community would rise to the challenge. Now that the event has concluded, I am pleased to report that RoboCup 2021 was an unmitigated success! Every single league held a successful competition of some sort, and we had more than 2,000 registered participants - a similar number to our usual in-person attendance. I feel like I've said this so many times to so many people over the past few days. But I also don't think it can be said enough. So once more, Thank you! We couldn't have done it without you: the members of the event organizing committee, the executive committee, the technical committees, the organizing committees, and indeed all of the participants! No matter where your team finished in the league rankings, RoboCup couldn't have without your participation. I hope and trust that you've also gained something from the experience, both intellectually and personally. *Apologies for duplicate messages*Call for Applications for Participation RoboCup 2021 Worldwide - RoboCup at Work https://2021.robocup.org Venue: Online --- This is a fully virtual event. Tuesday 22nd through Monday 28th June 2021 RoboCup at Work: Competing for the Factory of the Future RoboCup at Work is a league and competition in RoboCup that targets the use of robots in work-related, industrial scenarios. It aims to foster research and development that enables the use of innovative mobile robots equipped with advanced manipulators for current and future industrial applications, where robots cooperate with human workers for complex tasks ranging from manufacturing, automation, and parts handling up to general logistics. The RoboCup at Work league is characterized by an industrial appealing environment composed of industrial objects such as screws and nuts, shelves, containers, platforms of various sizes, and networked automation devices such as conveyor belts, drilling machines, and others. The actual competition tasks to be performed in the environment are defined in a set of so-called tests. Each test addresses various mobile manipulation capabilities such as grasping, transportation, precision placement, and visual servoing. The full rules of RoboCup at Work as well as further technical details are posted on the RoboCup at Work website (https://atwork.robocup.org). Participation in the Competition All teams that intend to participate in the competition have to perform the following steps: 1. Submission of qualification material, including a Team Description Paper and possibly additional material like videos or drawings 2. Final registration (qualified teams only) Qualification The qualification process serves a dual purpose: It should allow the Technical Committee to assess the safety of the robots a team intends to bring to the competition, and it should allow to rank teams according to a set of evaluation criteria in order to select the most promising teams for a competition, if not all interested teams can be permitted. The TC will select the qualified teams according to the qualification material provided by the teams. The evaluation criteria will include: - Team description paper - Relevant scientific contribution/publications - The professional quality of robot and software - Novelty of approach - Relevance to industry - Performance in previous competitions - Contribution to RoboCup at Work league, e.g. by -- Organization of events -- Provision and sharing of knowledge - Team web site Team Description Paper The Team Description Paper (TDP) is a central element of the qualification process and has to be provided by each team as part of the qualification process. The TDP should at least contain the following information in the author/title section of the paper: - Name of the team (title) - Team members (authors), including the team leader - Link to the team web site - Contact information - The body of the TDP should contain information on the following: -- focus of research/research interest -- a description of the hardware, including an image of the robot(s) -- a description of the software, esp. the functional and software architectures -- innovative technology (if any) -- reusability of the system or parts thereof -- applicability and relevance to industrial tasks -- usage of components (software or hardware) developed by other RoboCup at Work teams The team description paper should cover in detail the technical and scientific approach, while the team website should be designed for a broader audience. Both the website and the TDP have to be written in English. Technical Challenges in the Virtual RoboCup2021

Hi everyone, the TC committee is currently developing the rulebook for the 2021 robocup for achieving a good and fair competition for all teams. Due to a stricter timetable at the competition, because of the fact that teams are in different time zones, the TC would like to ask if any team wants to participate in the technical challenges. Currently there are two Technical Challenges defined in the rulebook: - Pick from Drawer Test - Cluttered Pick Test Please contact the TC if you want to participate at the Technical Challenges and/or want to introduce a new technical challenge until next friday 12am GMT+1 (19.02.2021). If requested, also a video based challenge would be doable (record video previously and submit). Dear RoboCup@Work, As discussed in the online team leaders meeting yesterday, we should form our TC/OC committee immediately. Therefore, we are really short on time, and we appreciate your quick response to the form. We would like to receive the nominations by Friday, January 22. We will finalize the nominations over the weekend and hopefully, we can kick off the discussions by next Monday. Let's try to release the rules by the end of January!! Below are the responsibilities of TCs and OCs: Technical Committee: Participate in rules discussion, finalize the changes and release the rulebook, oversee the competition integrity and adherence to the rules. Dear RoboCup@Work Teams, Happy New Year! We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a great and healthy 2021. It is now confirmed that RoboCup 2021 in Bordeaux has been canceled. The RoboCup Federation has informed us that there will not be a physical RoboCup 2021, but there will be a virtual RoboCup 2021! Although we feel very unfortunate that we will not be able to gather with our Robots in 2021, we are very excited about the virtual event. In fact, we are confident that we will have a successful competition as we have already held a virtual event during vRCAP 2021. We are counting on every team to come together and help make it a remarkable event. The preliminary plan is to hold the competition within every team's arena (lab) where the robot's performance is broadcasted with at least two cameras. Prior to each round, the participating team will explain the task that the robot will be completing. The points are awarded based on the initial presentation and the robot's actual performance. We plan to run the competition in three days with two runs per day. The above is just a draft plan, details and confirmed settings will be reflected in the league's rulebook soon. Before we decide about the arena details, we need to know how many teams are planning to participate and their available space and arena materials.
