Dear SSL-Community, As the RoboCup 2022 planning is underway, the OCs and the TCs would like to share information on what will be happening. RoboCup Participation Survey The RoboCup local organizers asks all teams to fill out the following participation survey: https://forms.gle/FKJMMRaqWK6rSPLq9 Deadline for submission is *January 30th*, anywhere on earth. Rule changes There are only minor improvements in the rules for RoboCup 2022. The changes are currently formulated in pull requests <https://github.com/RoboCup-SSL/ssl-rules/pulls> in the ssl-rules repository, most notably: 1. Revival of the advantage rule that allows teams to keep a game running when the opponent does not remove a robot within the 10 seconds: https://github.com/RoboCup-SSL/ssl-rules/pull/43/files 2. Improve tie breaking during penalty shootouts: https://github.com/RoboCup-SSL/ssl-rules/pull/42/files Please have a look at them and voice your concerns as soon as possible. They will be merged soon. Radio We are in contact with the LOC regarding the radio communication during the competition, especially if they will allow us to use 5GHz Wifi for the robot communication. So far, we only know that it might be possible, but we can not give you a guaranteed answer yet. We are already in contact with some teams regarding the use of 5GHz. If you are not using a frequency near 2.4GHz and have not yet contacted us, please tell us your desired solution. Technical challenges For RoboCup 2022, we will have three technical challenges. These challenges will be based on previous (technical) challenges with some small advancements: Blackout Challenge We will have the blackout challenge again to continue improving onboard sensing. There will be multiple phases with increasing difficulty again. This time, the focus will be on robot interaction: Two robots will need to collaborate with each other to score a goal. Dribbling challenge We will take the dribbling challenge from the hardware challenges from this year as a new technical challenge to keep improving the dribbling ability of our robots. There will be a new, more challenging scenario. Ball placement challenge The ball placement challenge will be the same as this year. Only teams from division B may attend it. We will not require attendance, though we strongly encourage teams to do so. The rules of the technical challenges will be updated in the upcoming months. Thank you! Hello! The Small Size League committee is glad to invite you to participate in the RoboCup 2022! Below you can find important information about the competition and qualification. Location and dates RoboCup Bangkok 2022 Small Size League July 11 - 17, 2022 https://ssl.robocup.org/robocup-2022/ About RoboCup RoboCup is an international scientific initiative with the goal to advance the state of the art of intelligent robots. When established in 1997, the original mission was to field a team of robots capable of winning against the human soccer World Cup champions by 2050. About the Small Size League The RoboCup Small Size League is a part of the RoboCup Research Federation focused on multi-agent coordination and control. Teams currently compete in 11 vs. 11 soccer matches (6 vs. 6 in Div. B). The robots must fit within an 18 cm diameter circle and must be no higher than 15 cm. The robots play soccer with an orange golf ball on a green carpeted field that is about 12 m long by 9 m wide. About the qualification To qualify for the competition, each team must submit a Team Description Paper and a video by February 1, 2022. Dear SSL-Community, As the RoboCup 2022 planning is underway, the OCs and the TCs would like to share information on what will be happening. Qualification We have announced the qualification deadlines on our website<https://ssl.robocup.org/robocup-2022-qualification/>. Please do take some time to read the requirements for the (E)TDP and the video, as these have been altered in order to provide a better and easier review process. We have also added an example section on what a good paper would look like. Referees Every year during competition we have the issue that some referees do not know the rules of the game. In order to improve this situation, this year we will require all participants to complete a quiz regarding the rules. This quiz will be sent a few weeks before the competition and will contain questions regarding tricky rule situations. We welcome suggestions as to what should be asked in this quiz, especially common difficult situations. Questions from Discord We have had a few questions in Discord regarding the competition and we would like to answer them officially. Can there be clarifications in the rules around WiFi to give more certainty to teams that are already or are considering using WiFi? We cannot use 2.4GHz WiFi due to the fact that other leagues are already using it, and therefore we would cause interference. Regarding the 5GHz, we have no reliable information yet, but we expect that the situation is similar to that of 2.4GHz: The network will be shared with many others and we can not give any guarantees regarding reliability, stability and availability. If you still think it is worth trying 5GHz WiFi, please get in contact with us. I was wondering if the OC/TC know if there have been any more updates on the status of Robocup 2022 in Thailand? Also is there a contingency plan? We have shared all the information about the RoboCup 2022 in Thailand that we can. We have a confirmed LOC so things are being planned. Regarding the contingency plan, the Small Size League is tied to the RoboCup Federation and therefore it is not our position to work on that. We will follow all recommendations that come, but due to our link with the Federation, we cannot stray from their plans. As our own league, we do not have the money or the manpower to plan anything separate. We will be sending more emails soon with more information regarding RoboCup 2022. Hello!We’ve received the following email from a Spanish TV station and we were asked to share this offer with you.The Spanish TV show ‘El Hormiguero’ wants to show robots playing soccer as part of their science section. They like the speed of games in the SSL. While they originally linked videos that are not identical to robots participating in the SSL, they were also interested in our robots when we showed some footage from Sydney.Their show is filmed in Madrid and performed live with participants and guests. Their set is about 3 meter in length, so teams might have to adapt to smaller fields and other adaptations to make the game look more interesting on a small field. They are looking for one team to participate in their show, and trip & shipping would be covered by them. Hello! As RoboCup 2021 comes to an end, we would like to thank everyone for participating! We know that circumstances were not ideal for us, but all the hard work and effort each and every one of you put in made this competition possible and amazing! We do have a few announcements for you about the competition and we hope to see everyone of you, in person, in Thailand next year!
