While current HRI research involves investigating ways for robots to effectively interact with people, HRI's overarching goal is to develop robots that are autonomous while intelligently modeling and learning from humans. These goals greatly overlap with some central goals of AI and interactive machine learning such that HRI is an extremely challenging problem domain for interactive learning and will elicit fresh problem areas for robotics research. Our symposium will focus on one common area of interest within the broader scope of HRI is an AI problem and AI is an HRI problem: interactive machine learning for interactive robotics. We believe that the fusion of HRI and interactive learning may provide new insights and discussions that could benefit both fields. Dear @Home teams, there are still a couple of slots available for @Home Education challenge during the European RoboCupJunior Championship (EURCJ) 2018 http://www.robocupathomeedu.org/challenges/robocup-home-education-challenge… If you have a junior team (either high-school under 19, or undergraduate under 22) willing to participate, let us know and fill the pre-registration in the web page above. The challenge is in the format workshop+competition, not requiring specific experience on robot programming (just basic knowledge of Python and Matlab) and we'll provide robots to teams, so there's no need to bring one. Tasks are taken from RoboCup@Home rulebook, so these activities will also boost RoboCup@Home major teams. All the teams are recruited in these last weeks before the competition, and they will all be at the same level in terms or preparation. The winner will be "European RoboCup@Home Education Champion" and the prize will be given by President of RoboCup Federation Daniel Polani. There will be also other prizes. We have started @Home Education activities since 2015, organized various competitions in Japan Open 2015, 2016, 2017, and RoboCup Asia-Pacific 2017, which generated more than 10 new teams with more than 50 participants in @Home participation. As an educational effort, since 2016 we have also conducted more than 8 workshops in domestic Japan and overseas. The workshop audiences were ranging from 20~70 participants, not limited to technical university students, but also inexperienced high school students and general public. 2017 SSPL Team AUPAIR Opensource

Dear all, This is Beom-Jin Lee, and I was the team leader for AUPAIR at RoboCup@Home SSPL held in Nagoya 2017. I am emailing to inform RoboCup@Home researchers that we have finally open- sourced our AUPAIR package for everyone’s use. The AUPAIR package is a Perception-Action-Learning System (PALs) which is a multi-modular system incorporated with state-of-the-art deep learning techniques. By using the PALs for pepper, you can demonstrate all the functions we used for the RoboCup@Home SSPL competition. I hope this contribution may ease some difficulties for research groups intending to participate in the future Social Standard Platform Leagues. We tried to add detail descriptions for any beginners to understand the code, however, if anyone has questions, feel free to contact me.
