Hello! The Small Size League committee is glad to invite you to participate in the RoboCup 2023! Below you can find important information about the competition and qualification. Location and dates RoboCup Bordeaux 2023 Parc des Expositions Small Size League July 4 - 9, 2023 https://2023.robocup.org/en/home/ About RoboCup RoboCup is an international scientific initiative with the goal to advance the state of the art of intelligent robots. When established in 1997, the original mission was to field a team of robots capable of winning against the human soccer World Cup champions by 2050. About the Small Size League The RoboCup Small Size League is a part of the RoboCup Research Federation focused on multi-agent coordination and control. Teams currently compete in 11 vs. 11 soccer matches (6 vs. 6 in Div. B). The robots must fit within an 18 cm diameter circle and must be no higher than 15 cm. The robots play soccer with an orange golf ball on a green carpeted field that is about 12 m long by 9 m wide. About the qualification To qualify for the competition, each team must submit a Team Description Paper and a video by January 31, 2023. Registrations are open for RoboCup Brazil Open The event will be held in São Bernardo do Campo - São Paulo, Brazil, from october 17 to 22. Remote Participation is available in Simulation Leagues. Registrations are now open for teams all over the world.To participate, the teams must register until july 31, on the website: www.cbrobotica.org . Dear SSL community, as in past years, we are happy to submit our entry for the Open Source Award. You will find a list of our publications below. Framework + Simulator: This is the main software we use to develop and test our AI. It is able to - receive and process real life vision data - simulate SSL games - control robots - create game recordings and play them back ...and much more. RoboCup 2022 – Open Source Award Submission RoboTeam Twente

Dear SSL-Community, For the first year since competing RoboTeam Twente is ready to enter for the Open Source Award. As all of our team members change (almost) in full every year we strive to have detailed and easy to understand documentation for everyone. This means that apart from all our designs we have collected all our recent how-to's, design decisions and detailed explanations into a wiki. This wiki we also use to introduce new people to our team, so we hope it can be especially helpful for newer teams and those who are looking into tips for building enough robots to transition to division A. Our wiki can be found here: https://wiki.roboteamtwente.nl/ Although the wiki also describes all previously made design in terms of hardware and software, some highlights of the changes we made this year include: - Transitioning to a modular design with hardware and electronics combined for faster repair and more extensive testing. RoboCup 2022 – Open Source Award Submission TIGERs Mannheim

Dear SSL-community, as in the past years we are very happy to announce our entry for the Open Source Award. By now there is a one-stop shop to get it all: https://github.com/TIGERs-Mannheim We are doing a complete and full release of everything we have, including electronics, mechanics, and our full AI. Here is a brief description of what has changed. Mechanics: The kicker and dribbler have been slightly updated to be more robust. The dribbler now allows prolonged periods of dribbling with higher torque. The release includes the full robot mechanics. Firmware: The build system has been changed to CMake and the folder structure has been reorganized. The dribbler control algorithm now allows better current and speed control. Test and model identification methods have been cleaned up and improved. The release also includes our wireless protocol and base station firmware. Software (AI): The heart and brain of our team, the central control software "Sumatra". Of course, compatible with the simulation protocol. So you can test your AI against ours locally. Dear SSL-Community, Here are a few updates for the upcoming competition: Technical Challenges With the RoboCup approaching, we would like to give an update regarding the schedule of the Technical Challenges. These will be performed on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. The precise schedule will be disclosed during the set up phase. Two weeks update

Dear SSL-Community, With the RoboCup being less than two weeks away, we have some final updates for you. Rules quiz In our previous emails we have informed you about the referee quiz. This quiz is designed to improve the notoriously poor quality of many of our referees. Each team needs to be able to perform the impartial roles (referee, assistant, game controller operator and vision experts) for matches where they are not playing themselves. Finishing the rules quiz correctly will be necessary for that, and only people who finish the quiz are allowed to perform the impartial roles. Please fill in the quiz before the start of the competition. The quiz additionally contains some open questions. Please try to explain as best as possible how you would handle the described situation. It is to give us an indication of how teams would act. The OC will provide the preferred course of action on the first day of the competition. The quiz can be found here <https://forms.gle/2LFrJGyZNqPbBfsr8>. A useful help would be the rule book <https://robocup-ssl.github.io/ssl-rules/sslrules.pdf>. Group drawings For Division B, we will be drawing all teams into two groups. The 7 teams that are qualified will be drawn into one group of size 4, and one group of size 3. We have assigned all teams into two sets: our four veteran teams (RoboCIN, RoboFEI, UBC Thunderbots and RoboIME) make up the upper set, and our three new teams (ITAndroids, Luhbots Soccer and Ri-one) make up the lower set. Considering there are 4 Brazilian teams, and one team from Canada, Germany and Japan each, we will not be using country-specific drawing rules. We’ve updated the ssl-grouping tool today to reflect these sets. We will be running the grouping tool with the two random seeds from https://www.random.org/integers/?mode=advanced, with the following settings: 2 Integers between 0 and 1000 with the pre-generated randomization for 1st of July. All of you can do so yourself, but we’ll publish the groups as soon as I have the seeds. Good luck with the final preparations, and see you in Bangkok!
