Dear RoboCuppers, The competitions in Salvador Brazil are finished, and unfortunately 2025 was the year last RoboCup Rescue Simulation competition. This is the end of a journey that started in 2000, as described in this article: R. Sheh, S.Schwertfeger and A. Standard Platform League and Humanoid KidSize League  The SPL and Humanoid League KidSize divisions begin an immediate merger process aiming to form a unified league by 2026 (name to be decided). Teams from across all soccer leagues will be invited to join and shape this process.  2. Small Size League, Middle Size League, and Soccer Simulation Leagues  2027 will be the final year of the international competition for the SSL, MSL, and the soccer simulation leagues, as long as we have sufficient participation. We look forward to transitioning all the scientific advancements from these leagues to humanoid robot soccer.  We welcome proposals from the community to re-imagine how these leagues may  contribute as a bridge to encourage participants from the Junior leagues to continue on with the Major leagues.  3. RoboCupRescue Simulation League The 2025 competition is the final year for RoboCupRescue Simulation as an independent league at the International event. Teams are encouraged to engage with the Rescue Robot League to explore merger concepts and combined evaluation frameworks.  4. RoboCup@Home A single, unified RoboCup@Home league takes effect immediately. The 2025 competition is the last to feature two separate sub-leagues.  5. RoboCupIndustrial The @Work and Logistics sub-leagues will create a new Smart Manufacturing League (SML), merging for the 2026 and 2027 competitions to better address emerging autonomous production and logistics challenges.

The effective implementation of this mission is translated into three main objectives. First, the league aims to provide a simulator able to realistically represent natural disaster scenarios where response rescue plans can be assessed. Second, it aims to define evaluation benchmarks for response plans elaborated by policy-makers. Finally, it aims to promote research and development by organizing competitions to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experience between researchers and practitioners. These aims are designed to help in the development of more sophisticated and formalized response plans to effectively respond to natural disasters and reduce the negative impacts on society. Do you think taht humans will continue to be a necessary part of effectictive robotic teams, or is full autonomy the future. A: Early in the competition, we saw a lot of hand-holding, with humans giving low-level commands. But teams quickly realized that they neeeded a more autonomous approach. Full autonomy is hard, though, and I think humans will continue to play a pretty big role, just a role that needs to evolve and chane into something that focuses on waht humans do best. .... Deepest remote operation of robot exploration

Dear all, this is a quite nice background story on how realistic the scenario of the Rescue Simulation competition is. The robots had to explore a collapsed mine, where mapping was essential because the lime-mine was all grey, with pillar after pillar (see the hand-draw maps of the 100y old mine in the video). 2022 Call for Nominations for Silvia Coradeschi and Gerhard K. Kraetzschmar Awards Prof. Silvia Coradeschi (d. Feb 5, 2014) was a founding trustee of RoboCup and an early visionary in the RoboCup initiative. She served as General Chair of RoboCup 1999 in Stockholm, Sweden, was a frequent competition participant, and was an exemplar of the RoboCup ideal of engaging in cutting-edge AI and Robotics research. Prof. Gerhard K. Kraetzschmar (d. July 24, 2019) joined RoboCup since its beginning in 1997 and significantly contributed to the development of the RoboCup Federation (Trustee since 2004, Vice-President from 2008 to 2016). He was involved in the organization of many of the leagues, with major contributions to RoboCupJunior, RoboCup@Home, and RoboCup@Work. He was General Chair of RoboCup 2016 in Leipzig, Germany. To honor their extraordinary contributions to RoboCup and to honor their memories, the RoboCup Federation created “The Silvia Coradeschi RoboCup Award” in 2014 (https://www.robocup.org/silvia_coradeschi<https://eur04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…>), for a young female RoboCup student, with distinguishing research and the “Gerhard Kraetzschmar RoboCup Distinguished Service Award” in 2021 (https://www.robocup.org/gkk_award<https://eur04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Furldefens…>), to recognize the outstanding contributions of an individual for his/her exceptional leadership, service, and dedication that benefit RoboCup in any of its leagues. The award recipients, to be named at RoboCup 2022 will receive: ● a certificate ● a US$1,000 honorarium Nominations for the “Silvia Coradeschi Award”: Eligible candidates for the “Silvia Coradeschi Award” are female graduate students and post-doctoral researchers who received the degree within the past 3 years and who will register for RoboCup 2022. The two criteria are: 1. Distinguishing research as evidenced by, for example, refereed publications. 2. RoboCup leadership, either within a team and/or in the broad RoboCup community. Indeed, AAMAS researchers are sometimes inspired by robots, sometimes use robots in motivating examples, and sometimes make contributions to robotics. Both practical and analytical techniques in AAMAS influence, and are being influenced by, research into autonomous robots and multi-robot systems. The goal of the workshop is to extend and widen this opportunity, by offering a forum where researchers in this field of study can interact and present promising innovative research directions and new results with the goal of discussing and comparing ideas and approaches. The workshop is coordinated and associated with the AAMAS Area of Interest – Robotics to fast-track all papers accepted as extended abstracts at the main conference into the ARMS workshop. Theoretical papers are welcome, as long as they clearly address challenges in robotics. Papers that focus on mechanical aspects and low-level control should make an effort to relate to the agents community. Virtual Robots Competition - Requesting Assistance

Dear Virtual Robot Competitors, I’m from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. We have a long history of competing in RoboCup, particular the Standard Platform League in soccer, RoboCup Rescue and RoboCup@Home. We’re currently in the process of starting a new team to hopefully compete in the RoboCup Rescue Virtual Robots Competition next year (2022) and have spent a few months familiarising ourselves with the competition. However, we could do with some help and guidance. I have put together a team of undergraduate students from my university who are interested in participating in the competition The students have spent the better half of this year investigating more about the competition and trying to learn the technical skills needed including ROS, Gazebo, etc. A group of students from the team are focusing on the object recognition part of the competition and experimenting with technologies such as YOLO and Detectron2 to detect victims in the maps. We went through papers from the past few year submitted by previous participating teams and noticed that most of them use a dataset of victims to train their image recognition models. However, we could not find the source of the datasets anywhere in the papers, internet or the RoboCup website. We did find some soccer datasets but none is specific for the object recognition task. Would someone be able to let me know if there are any such technical datasets/resources that we can access to assist with our participation in the competition next year? I also noticed that training workshops were held for some of the previous iterations of this competition. Is there any such training workshop(s) planned for next year or can we access the material from one of the previous workshops? Lastly, if anyone from the community would be interested in presenting to our group over videoconference at some point, we would be very grateful.
