Dear all,

The draft version of the new rule book is released. We think that the TC has done a marvellous job this year by advancing old tests into new domains and also by creating a new and existing 'psychological' test. Please take your time to read it, and discuss any issue you have on the public mailing list. We want to finalize the rule book by the 1st of March. Any comments after that date will be for the next rule book.

This year will be a milestone for the RoboCup Federation and robotics in general. Why? Because we are taking the robots into the real word. Although the scenario already looks and feels very real, there are two tests that will be outside the scenario. Also, it will be the first time in the history of RoboCup where the mental capabilities of the robots are being tested specifically.

Some highlights:
- For several tests the starting signal for the robot is that the referee opens the door and the robot has to start.
- Teams can do all tests of phase I, and if they make it to the second phase, all tests of phase II
- The weight restrictions of the robots are much less restricted than in the previous years
Stage I:
- The robot inspection is a test where the robot and the team can introduce themselves.
- The 'Follow Me' test is completely outside the scenario in a public area.
- 'Go Get It!' is a combination of 'Fetch & Carry' and 'Lost & Found'.
- 'Who's Who?' got more complicated.
Stage II
- The 'Enhanced Who's Who' includes serving drinks and finding people who can stand or sit. People can even move around!
- The 'General Purpose Robot' is a test which is very flexibe, but all about the robot understanding the world and being able to reason about it.
- The 'Shopping Mall' test is (most likely) in a real supermarket (so not in the scenario)
- The 'Demo Challenge' is a combination of the previous two years, with bonus points if two teams from different institutes work together using up to 4 robots

Two more items which are relevant are the following:
- The first test, the robot-inspection-poster-presentation (RIPS) will start on 20th of June at 1500h! (not on the 21st). The robot inspection is mandatory, so be there on time. The venue will most likely be open already on the 19th.
- Since we are going into the real world we have very strict safety rules. Please pay attention to them. Remember: Safety First!

You can download your copy by going to the updated website ( http://www.robocupathome.org ) or by using the following link: http://www.robocupathome.org/documents/rulebook2010_DRAFT.pdf .
