RoboCup Iran Open competition was held during 6-9 April in Tehran. It was the first execution of the new @Home rulebook in a formal competition and it really resulted great experiences for us. You can find details about this event in http://www.iranopen2010.ir/Default.aspx?tabid=151&language=en-GB .
During the competition, some participants and executives of the league expressed some questions and suggestions about the rules which is mentioned below:
- Robot Inspection and Poster Session
o What are exactly the expectations from the robot autonomous registration? Is it enough the robot move near the table, hand over the registration form and explains its specifications? Or it should points its part with its arm while talking, and someone shows slides about the robot explanations?
o I think it is better to add "Use of external devices" statement in the registration form too. So teams announce it formally in the paper.
- Follow me
o As this test takes place outside the arena, what happened if some spectators block the robot? Is it possible to allow the robot do the test again?
o There is some comments about gesture commands regulations (sec. 3.6.8). Does it mean just movement of shoulder and elbow in gesture commands are permitted? Essentially, what is the reason of this limitation?
- Who is who
o In searching guests phase, when teams are informed about the room of persons? Is it possible to know the room before the beginning of the test? Or it is announced to robot by speech command during the test? It seems the first assumption is true, because for going to the correct room no score is considered.
o In identifying phase, after robot found the sitting person and went in one meter distance of him/her, is it possible the robot wants the person to stand and look at its camera?
- Open challenge
o In page 36 line 11 of rulebook, the factor of 20/6 must be changed to 200/6 to have max of 2000 points.
- Enhanced who is who
o Similar to who is who phase, when and how teams are informed about the location of objects and room of persons?
- Shopping Mall
o How long before the beginning of the test, teams are informed about the location of supermarket? Is it permitted the teams without their robots visit the location before the test and make sense about height of shelves and area of supermarket?
o For getting guide phase points, is it enough the robot reaches the locations or it have to after standing in position says name of the position? What about navigation phase?
- General Purpose Service Robot
o There was a lot of ambiguities on this test, So nobody could get points from this section in Iran open. List of tasks was greatest ambiguity. For example in the rule book is mentioned the tasks are from stages I and II, but examples of tasks in rulebook is about counting objects or persons and task of counting did not mention in tests of stage 1 and 2. I saw new rulebook after Iran open. These examples are removed but I would like to request from TCs to explicitly announce the list of tasks, actions and its parameters, but teams also have to consider all synonyms for the actions by themselves.
o There are some typos in the new rulebook: {line 10 of page 42, "thee" -> "three"} {line 22 of page 42 "max(Cat. 1)" -> "max(Cat. 3)"}
o I have attended in 2 last competitions of @Home league. As far as I know teams who reach to final section just repeat one of the best done pervious tests and it is not very nice to see repetitive tasks in this section. So I would like to suggest to move this complicated test to final section. I think it makes to have a nice final with better evaluation of ability of the champion.
Regards,
Fariborz
